Laina lay on the floor face down, her body paralyzed, the taste of blood in her mouth. She moved her head, barely able to, but managing through sheer will. Her husband lay unmoving across the room, blood pooled around him. He was still alive, she could still hear his heart. “Philip?” She rasped out.
“Surprising you’re still conscious.” She was rolled over and the male demon squatted down. “You two were a lot of trouble.”
“Probably dying.” He reached over and stroked her cheek. “He really shouldn’t have killed my men.”
“Blame your ex, it’s his fault I’m doing this. He’s the one who had me tortured and thrown in a cell. It’s only fair I torture him back.” He stood then lifted her and tossed her over his shoulder. “I wonder how fast he’ll come running?” He walked past Philip and Laina started crying, praying he would make it.
Faline was surprised when her mother didn’t answer again and hit the end icon on her cell. “No answer?” Victor asked.
“No and she usually calls me right back if she misses a call.”
“Maybe they stepped out. Maybe try Ophelia?”
“Alright.” She dialed her sister’s number and was relieved when she answered.
“You talked to mom today?”
“No, why? Is everything alright?”
“She’s not answering her phone.”
“I know, maybe she just forgot it.”
“Mom? Doubt it. I can go over if you want.”
“You don’t have to, it’s probably nothing.”
“I need to visit anyway, I’ll tell her to call you.”
